Orthognathic Surgery

Corrective jaw surgery treats and corrects abnormalities of the facial bones, specifically the jaws and the teeth. These abnormalities can cause difficulty talking, sleeping, and chewing. Facial deformities can be corrected by a team approach involving an orthodontist, general dentist, and orthognathic surgeon. The overall appearance of the patients, once the underlying skeletal discrepancy is corrected, is improved.

Our oral surgeons use the latest in digital imaging technology to demonstrate the overall functional and esthetic benefits of orthognathic surgery. Computerized treatment planning minimizes treatment times, recovery periods, and the overall efficacy of the surgery. State of the art materials such as titanium screws and plates allow the patient to no longer be "wired" together allowing the patients to return to their normal routines soon after surgery.

Orthognathic surgery is sometimes avoided or risks reduced if the orthodontic treatment can correct it. We will evaluate and advise you if we feel that orthodontics alone can be a treatment option.
